From a Chance Encounter to a Lasting Legacy: The Day I Met Charlie Kirk

Posted on November 9, 2025December 14, 2025 by Hannah Harden

I had no idea what I was walking into. On July 27th, 2024, at the Believer’s Summit in West Palm Beach, I accidentally wandered into a VIP-only room. I wasn’t sure what was going on — I just chose a random seat and hoped no one would notice how out of place I looked. I was easily the youngest person in the room, which only added to the feeling that I didn’t belong. The audience was mostly filled with sharply-dressed professionals and then there was just me, sitting there quietly and hoping I wouldn’t get kicked out.

I remember scanning the room and immediately noticing the security guards patrolling up and down the aisles. It made my spine stiffen. I couldn’t help but wonder: what was going on, and who in this room was so important that they needed active security?

Suddenly, the entire audience rose to their feet in one grand, sweeping motion. I jumped up too, trying to keep tempo and follow suit, self-conscious about how delayed my reaction was. Standing at only 5’4, I struggled to see over the six rows ahead of me but I was determined to find out who just walked into the room.

After some strained tiptoeing and awkward leaning, I finally spotted him. Recognition flooded me immediately — it was Charlie Kirk. I saw him speak a couple of years prior at my alma mater, Liberty University’s convocations. I had a vague impression of him at the time. I knew he was a polarizing figure — people either loved or hated him — but I wasn’t quite sure why.

In the past, he was just another speaker on an attendance-required convocation stage. At Liberty, we were all forced to go — and most of us didn’t care. I was just another sleep-deprived college student sitting in the nosebleeds, barely paying attention. But this time it was different. He was only a few yards away and I could see him clearly now.

Up close, he felt real. There was a regal air about him — a quiet confidence paired with a striking boldness that made everyone lean in, including me. Before he even spoke, the entire room was at the edge of their seats and the atmosphere electric with anticipation.

His voice rang out with clarity and conviction, snapping everyone to attention. I remember thinking, Why didn’t I pay more attention before?

Listening to Charlie speak was eye-opening and deeply moving. The conviction in his voice didn’t just echo through the room — it hit me. Hard. Admittedly, I wasn’t fully familiar with some of the concepts he was talking about. A lot of the political language went over my head.

But the more I listened, the more it started to make sense. He explained things so clearly, so purposefully, that I found myself understanding in real time. I realized the gravity of what was being discussed. These weren’t just ideas or opinions; they were beliefs that shaped lives, policies, and futures. And I was finally paying attention.

What struck me most about Charlie was his rhetorical style of speaking. It wasn’t just persuasive — it was structured, deliberate, almost Socratic. He asked questions that led you somewhere, challenged assumptions without aggression, and built arguments layer by layer. It reminded me of the dialogues I’d read in Greek history, where conversation wasn’t just about winning — it was about revealing truth. Listening to him felt like stepping into one of those ancient forums, where ideas were sharpened through speech.

I don’t know how long the event ran — it could’ve been hours. But with the way the conversation held my attention, it felt like minutes. The world beyond the room melted away, like nothing else mattered. In that space, it was just me listening to Charlie’s voice and realizing how right he was about a lot of things.

Before I knew it, the event was wrapping up. People began to stand, gathering their things, and heading for the exit. I rose to follow the crowd, casting one last, longing glance back at the stage. That’s when I noticed a small line forming at the front — a chance to meet Charlie. I immediately scrambled to grab a flyer off the floor for him to sign and made a beeline for it.

I overheard him mention something about running late to catch a flight — possibly on a private jet. My heart sank and I worried I wasn’t going to get a chance to meet him. But he stayed. I remember being in awe of his down to earth demeanor. Most people of his importance would just toss a half-hearted wave while flying out the door. But he didn’t. Charlie just kept smiling, greeting everyone that approached him like he had all the time in the world.

At first, I felt calm as I waited in line for my turn. But the closer I got, the more I started to freak out internally. I don’t know why, but my heart was racing and my hands were shaking. I remember thinking to myself, Why am I freaking out right now, it’s not like he’s a celebrity. He’s just a political speaker. But my body wasn’t listening. My internal logic couldn’t catch up to the adrenaline, and it felt like I was going into shock.

My nerves almost turned to full-fledged panic as I tried to figure out what to say. My mind was racing, wracking itself for something — anything — that sounded right. But everything I came up with felt either too formal or painfully basic. And I didn’t want to just blurt out something random to someone as eloquently spoken as him. I wanted to match the moment, to say something that mattered — but the pressure only made it harder.

Suddenly, there he was, standing right in front of me, looking me in the eyes. I remember being caught off guard by how tall he was in-person. He was towering over me, and in that moment, I realized just how commanding his presence was. It wasn’t just his height — it was the way he carried himself. He was a natural alpha, the kind of man who was born to be a leader.

I nervously squeaked out all I could think to say to express my gratitude for him. “Thank you for all that you do.” He smiled back at me with a genuine look that made me feel like my words landed. Like he actually appreciated my support, even though I was just a random girl out of a crowd of people. I remember thinking, What he does has got to be hard. I want him to know how much he is loved and appreciated.

I think I dropped the flyer — it was long forgotten in the moment. So instead, I asked if I could take a picture with him. He smiled and offered to take it himself since he was so much taller than me. I offered him my phone with trembling hands and remember balancing on my tiptoes to be in the frame with him.

My cheek ended up resting on his shoulder, offering me some stability in that moment. He took our photo, with a wide genuine smile on his face. His joyful demeanor was unexpectedly refreshing — a gentle contrast to his serious, polished businessman appearance.

I thanked him again and then stepped back to look at the photo he had taken of us, just hoping it came out clear. I was still shaking with nerves that I didn’t yet fully understand. But I felt excited and proud that I was able to capture the memory of meeting him. I couldn’t wait to tell my family and friends, who were all big supporters of him. I felt like the luckiest person alive leaving the Palm Beach Convention Center after meeting Charlie that day.

I didn’t know that a little over a year later, I’d be mourning him alongside the world.

My memory of meeting Charlie will forever be engraved in my mind and on my heart. I am eternally grateful that I got to spend time with him while he was still here on this earth. I know without a doubt that he heard the words “Well done my good and faithful servant.” when he entered the kingdom of Heaven. And he was fully deserving of that, more than most people ever will be.

Charlie was truly a once-in-a-lifetime speaker — the face of a movement that spread far beyond the college campuses he visited and touched the rest of the world. He was one of the few who championed the youth. Believing that anyone could be reached through genuine conversations and human connection. Through his hard work and dedication, he saved a lost generation and brought them back home.

It is our duty to carry on Charlie’s memory and push forward the movement that he started. To lead with boldness and seek truth despite living in a world wrapped in darkness. To speak with conviction and ensure that our voices keep his from fading out. To fight the good fight. To run the race set before us. And to keep the faith.

May his legacy live on and embolden us to receive the torch and carry it on.
